Overview

What Are Botox & Dysport?

Looking for Botox in Richmond Hill? Neuromodulator injections soften expression lines while keeping your face natural and expressive.

Neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport are purified proteins that temporarily relax the small muscles that crease the skin when you frown, squint or raise your brows. With less movement, lines soften and new ones are slower to form.

At York Dermatology your injection plan starts with a look at how your face moves at rest and in expression. We aim for a refreshed result that still lets you look like yourself.

Botox and Dysport are often the first step in a cosmetic dermatology plan. For volume loss that muscle relaxers can’t fix, we combine them with dermal fillers, and for fine texture with no downtime we add Laser Genesis. Deeper wrinkles that stay at rest may also need CO2 laser resurfacing.

Treatment time: 10–20 minutes
Downtime: None
Sessions: Every 3–6 months
Results: Visible in about 2 weeks

What To Expect From Botox & Dysport

Who it suits, how to prepare, what happens on the day and how results develop.

A good fit if:

  • You have lines from frowning, squinting or raising your brows
  • You want a subtle change without downtime
  • You are ready for upkeep every few months

Talk to us first if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a neuromuscular condition such as myasthenia gravis
  • You have an infection or active skin problem in the area
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications and blood thinners such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) for 2 days before treatment, if your doctor agrees.
  • Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks before a special event, as results take 7–14 days to appear.
  • Stop Retin-A or retinol 2 days before treatment.
  • Tell us if you have a history of cold sores; an anti-viral medication may be prescribed.
  • Arrive without cream or makeup on the treatment area.

We clean the skin and place a few quick injections. Most people describe a brief pinch. Pre-treatment photos are taken so we can compare results at your review.

  • Small bumps at the injection points fade within about 30 minutes; pinpoint bleeding resolves quickly.
  • Do not rub or manipulate the treated area, and do not lie down for 4–6 hours.
  • Avoid strenuous activity, hot showers, hot tubs, saunas and pools for 24 hours.
  • Avoid facials, laser and other cosmetic treatments for at least 14 days.
  • Mild bruising or sensitivity can last 7–10 days. Contact us if symptoms persist.
  • Day 0: small bumps at injection points fade within 30 minutes.
  • Days 3–5: muscles start to relax and lines soften.
  • Week 2: full result; review visit if needed.
  • Months 3–6: movement gradually returns; book your next visit.

Lines soften over two weeks and results usually last three to six months. Regular treatment can train muscles to relax, so some patients go longer between visits over time.

  • Mild redness, swelling or a small bruise at injection points
  • Temporary headache
  • Rarely, a heavy brow or eyelid for a few weeks, which settles as the product wears off

We go through the risks for your skin type at your consultation.

How Much Do Botox & Dysport Cost In Richmond Hill?

The cost of Botox or Dysport in Richmond Hill depends on how many areas are treated and how many units each area needs, which varies with muscle strength. We quote after assessing your expressions, so you only pay for what you need.

What affects the price:

  • Number of areas (forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet)
  • Units needed for your muscle strength
  • Product chosen (Botox or Dysport)
  • Whether a two-week review touch-up is needed

Cosmetic treatments are not covered by OHIP. Pricing is discussed at your consultation and is not given over the phone; you receive a written plan and quote before any treatment is booked.

Results usually last three to six months. Some patients find results last longer with regular treatment.

Both are neuromodulators that temporarily relax the muscles that cause expression lines. They are dosed differently, and Dysport can take effect a little sooner and spread slightly more, which can suit larger areas such as the forehead. We recommend the product that fits your areas and goals at your consultation.

Our aim is a refreshed result that still lets you move naturally. We start with a conservative dose and review you at about two weeks, adjusting if needed.

Most people notice lines softening within 3 to 5 days, with the full result at about two weeks. Book at least two weeks before a special event.

There is no recovery time and most people return to their day straight away. Stay upright for 4 to 6 hours and avoid strenuous exercise, hot tubs and saunas for 24 hours after treatment.

The cost depends on the number of areas treated and the units each area needs. We confirm pricing at your consultation and give you a written plan and quote before treatment. Cosmetic treatments are not covered by OHIP.

Preventative Botox means treating expression lines early, before they settle into the skin at rest. Whether it suits you depends on your skin and how your face moves, which we assess at your consultation.

Yes. Botox and Dysport relax lines caused by movement, while dermal fillers restore lost volume, so they are often used together. We plan the order and timing of each treatment for you.

Yes. Men often treat forehead lines, frown lines and crow’s feet. Men can have stronger facial muscles, so dosing is tailored at the consultation.

Botox is also used to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), such as in the underarms. Ask us at your consultation whether it is right for you.
